Vernon Mill Studios, based in Stockport, are proud to have a non elitist approach to welcoming artists on board. This results in a diverse and fertile range of art practices, from contemporary to traditional, professional to beginner. The group started in 2000 and has grown into a diverse and vibrant community of more that 60 artists housed in the 3rd and 4th floors of the 19th century cotton mill.

The first exhibition "Breaking Spaces" in 2001 established Vernon Mill as a centre of artistic activity.  Subsequent exhibitions have built on these foundations such as "Art for Peace" in 2005 and as part of the Great British Art Show in 2006 when the group collaborated with 12 other Manchester Studio Groups.  Exhibitions have also been held in the Portico Library Manchester, Stockport Art Gallery and various other venues over the years.

We hold an open studios event twice a year, and the mill is open to the public every weekend to allow artists to exhibit and sell their work. Please pop down and have a look around.

The artists working from the mill cover a gamut of styles and media ranging from traditional painting, sculpture, photography and ceramic to conceptual work, new media and site specific environmental art.
